HOW TO FELLOWSHIP WITH GOD

1 Corinthians 1:9 NIV

God is faithful, who has called you into fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

This verse tells us that we have been called into fellowship with His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. I am going to give some steps on how to fellowship with the Lord according to the Scriptures.

 1) The first thing we need to do is to see yourself as God’s friend. John 15:15 says, “I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.” Are you God’s friend?

2) God is your Father. Jeremiah 31:3 says, The Lord appeared to us in the past, saying: “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.” God loves you. Galatians 4:6 says, Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.” We are to call God our Father. I say Abba Daddy sometimes. I know some people don’t think calling God Father or Daddy is respectful, but this verse says to call Him Abba Father.

3) He also tells us to boldly come to the throne of grace (Hebrews 4:16). It encourages approaching God with confidence to receive mercy and find grace to help in times of need.

4) Understand that God’s Words are alive. Isaiah 55:11, so is my word that goes out from my mouth:     It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it. Spirit and life are His words according to Matthew 4:4, Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.” This was when Jesus was in the desert and being tempted by the devil. We are to do the same as Jesus did when we are attacked by the devil. Speak it is written…

5) You can fellowship with God by only hearing from Him. John 5:19 NLT,  So Jesus explained, “I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself. He does only what he sees the Father doing. Whatever the Father does, the Son also does. Romans 10:17 NLT, So faith comes from hearing, that is, hearing the Good News about Christ.

6) Find verses that bless and inspire you. Jer 15:16 NLT, When I discovered your words, I devoured them. They are my joy and my heart’s delight, for I bear your name, O Lord God of Heaven’s Armies. Find joy by devouring His Word.

7) Ask God to reveal the truth to you. John 8:31-32 NLT says, 31 Jesus said to the people who believed in him, “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. 32 And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” Meditate on His Word, it will set you free.

8) Be open to correction. 2 Timothy 3:16 NLT, All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.

9) Be a doer of the Word. Matthew 7:24 NIV, Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.

10) Declare that the Word is true in your life. 2 Cor 4:13 NLT,  But we continue to preach because we have the same kind of faith the psalmist had when he said, “I believed in God, so I spoke.” If you are not in faith and peace, you need more fellowship with the Father.

11) Pray in the Spirit to build yourself up. Jude 1:20 NIV, But you, dear friends, by building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit.

12) Keep growing is the result of fellowship with the Lord. Psalm 1:2-3 NIV, whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. 3 That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither—whatever they do prospers.

Father, thank You that we can boldly come to the throne of grace and fellowship with You. Help us to follow these steps to fellowship with You and do it daily. I love You and praise You. In Jesus’ name Amen.
