WALK IN THE SPIRIT PART 1

Romans 7:15 AMPC 15 For I do not understand my own actions [I am baffled, bewildered]. I do not practice or accomplish what I wish, but I do the very thing that I loathe [which my moral instinct condemns].

Do you struggle as this verse says? You don’t accomplish what you wish but do the things you loathe? This is what I want to talk about today. I think even as Christians we all struggle with this at times. My problem is with food. I am trying to lose weight but I am tempted to eat things I know cause me to gain. Sometimes I pray and ask the Lord to help me overcome the temptation but I end up eating it any way. Then I feel guilty and ask God for forgiveness. He forgives me and does not condemn me (Ro 8:1).

Romans 8:12-13 NLT 12 Therefore, dear brothers and sisters, you have no obligation to do what your sinful nature urges you to do. 13 For if you live by its dictates, you will die. But if through the power of the Spirit you put to death the deeds of your sinful nature, you will live.

Since we have the Spirit of God living in us, we have no obligation to do what our sinful nature or deeds of the flesh urges us to do. We need to be walking by the Spirit of God, not the dictates of our flesh. We need to get a revelation of knowing that the Spirit of God lives in us. 2 Corinthians 3:16 says that we are the temple of God, the Spirit of God dwells permanently in us. When I received this revelation, it made such a big difference in my life. It’s a WOW moment. With that revelation, I received another revelation that He will never leave me or forsake me (Hebrews 13:5).

A revelation is a knowing in your spirit that you know, that you know without a doubt the truth. We have to get it from our minds down into our spirit. How do we do that? We must renew our minds to the Word of God and not conform to the worldly customs.

Romans 12:2 AMPC 2 Do not be conformed to this world (this age), [fashioned after and adapted to its external, superficial customs], but be transformed (changed) by the [entire] renewal of your mind [by its new ideals and its new attitude], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God, even the thing which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His sight for you].

This verse says to be transformed which means completely changed like a caterpillar to a butterfly, by the entire renewal of your mind. You can also prove what is the acceptable and perfect will of God is for you. It takes time to renew our mind but we must read and meditate on the Word of God continually. I will continue talking about walking in the Spirit next time.

Father, I thank You for Your Spirit living in me to help me overcome temptation. I will continue to renew my mind to Your Word so that I do not allow my flesh to dominate me. Thank You for giving me the authority and ability to overcome temptations. I love You Lord. In Jesus name. Amen.
